SAMPLE CUSTOM ITINERARY FOR BOLIVIA SUMMER 2007

DAY 1: Arrive in La Paz. We get picked up at airport and escorted to our hotel.Spend afternoon walking around La Paz sightseeing.
DAY 2: Tiahuanaco. Bolivia's most important archaeological site. We'll spend the bulk of the day sightseeing this incredible site. Acclimatization day.
DAY 3: Chacaltaya (17,350 feet). We drive to the foot of Bolivia's and the world's highest ski area. About 2-3 hours hiking and acclimatization.
DAY 4: La Paz to Chiarkhota. We leave La Paz and drive to Tuni, our kick-off point for hiking into our basecamp for the the next two days.
DAY 5: Pequeno Alpamayo (17,615 feet). This is a beautiful mountain with a striking ridge route which we will take to the summit. A broad glacier climb to a traverse along a ridge to the base of our summit pyramid. About a 7 hour ascent with 2 hours for the descent.
DAY 6: We can either rest a day and ascend Condoriri (18,500 feet) or we can depart basecamp and return to La Paz and our hotel.
DAY 7: Rest Day in La Paz or ascent Condoriri.
DAY 8: Leave Condoriri basecamp and return to La Paz OR leave La Paz and Drive to Huayna Potosi base camp. Hike from basecamp to high camp (17,384 feet) This is a 3-4 hour hike.
DAY 9: Huayna Potosi high camp to Summit and then back to La Paz. We leave high camp early morning and ascend to the summit (19,970 feet). We return to high camp and back to La Paz for celebration and rest.
DAY 10: Rest in La Paz.
DAY 11: Leave for Illimani Base Camp. 2-3 hour drive 4-5 hour hike into camp.
DAY 12: Illimani to High Camp. We move up to Illimani high camp (17, 890 feet) After about 5 hours of glacier hiking and climbing.
DAY 13: Illimani to summit (21,120 feet). This is a moderately steep but crevassed slope that we climb for several hours before reaching the summit.
DAY 14: Leave Illimani basecamp and return to La Paz.
 
The last three days (Days # 15, 16, 17) would be used as trekking days if we were to stay in the mountains and trek from camp to camp rather than return to La Paz. Back-up days in case of bad weather or extra days to be spent climbing.
