ICE CLIMBING
Introduction to Ice Climbing
This is a half day event where you are introduced to ice climbing. We cover all basic aspects of the sport in a fun area where you top-rope the ice and learn to enjoy the new sensation of climbing frozen waterfalls. You'll learn the different crampons and axe techniques. You will get a chance to try the newest equipment and learn from the best. All equipment is provided.
Ice Climbing Clinics
There is a saying in climbing that the best climber is the one having the most fun". We believe that the better your technique is and more complete your knowledge of ice climbing is, the safer you are and the more fun you will have. Our ice climbing clinics focus on developing your strengths while providing you with an opportunity to focus on any weaknesses you might have. You will come away from any of our clinics with a better understanding and appreciation of the sport and your place in it.
If you are interested in becoming a safer climber and want to improve your technique for those long, steep leads on Canadian Ice this is where you should start.
Our clinics are either half day or full day events where we focus on whatever skills you feel you need to improve. This can be anything from footwork and pick placement to leading on ice. If you are planning a trip to some ice climbing destination and want a professional to review your skills and give you pointers for improvement this is the best way to do that. We customize the clinic to your needs and desires.
Clinic Rates
$275.00 for one person
$150.00 each for more than one person (two people=$300.00 total cost/three people = $450.00 total cost)
All rates are per climber, per day. Special rates are available for groups.
All ice climbing equipment is provided (boots, crampons, helmets, axes, harnesses).
Guiding the Classic Ice Climbs of Colorado
Each year we get requests to guide ice climbs that have certain qualities such that everyone wants to tick them off their list of "MUST DO ROUTES". Ouray and the San Juan Mountains offer the finest ice climbing in Colorado and probably in the USA. From one pitch wonders to multi-pitch 900 foot routes like Stairway to Heaven you can experience the exhilaration and unique challenges and rewards of ice climbing.
These routes are classic, the best of their type and form consistently year after year. If there are other routes you would like to do please give us a call and we will arrange a custom trip to your specifications.
Prices for any guided climbing in Ouray, Eureka, and Telluride areas only include my personal guiding fee. Since I am based in Boulder, Colorado It is approximately 6-7 hours driving time one way from Boulder to Ouray and two tanks of gas round trip to guide in this area. My daily guiding fee for any of these routes is $300.00 per route plus travel expenses. Get a group of your friends together and this will lower the overall cost.

THE FRONT RANGE
The ice climbing opportunities in the Front Range around Boulder and Golden generally cater more to introduce the novice ice climber to the sport and serves as an excellent location to practice technique on climbs that do not exceed 100 feet in height. Difficult of the climbing can vary from year to year but generally is in the WI1-4 range. The approach to the climbing areas is less than ten minutes so we can cover a lot of climbing in half a day. Occasionally ice forms on the East face of the First and Third Flatiron and when it does the climbing is the best the Front Range has to offer.
