ICE CLIMBING CLINICS 2007 — 2008

JR on ice

Basic Ice introduces the climber to fundamental crampon technique, handling of an ice axe and ice tools. We take you from low-angle ice through the steepest ice you can safely handle. You will learn to read the ice and use crampons and ice tools in harmony together for efficient climbing. We'll take you through the different grades of difficulty explaining what the differences are and how to adjust your technique to the varying steepness and structure of ice. Styles incorporating both leashed and leashless tools and movement will be demonstrated and you will have a chance to try both techniques. Your climbing will be closely supervised and you will be on a top-rope the entire time you are climbing. Belaying skills will be taught and practiced along with an explanation of how the protection system works in ice climbing. The climbing location varies from the time of year and as conditions allow. Clinics typically begin by Oct. 30 and end by March 30th. Ratio never exceeds three clients per guide and frequently is less.
PRICE: $200 1:1, $300 2:1, $450 3:1

Intermediate Ice begins where Basic Ice left off. For those climbers ready to progress to vertical or overhanging ice this class is a must. We introduce the participant(s) to new techniques that refine existing skills and aid you in pushing through to the next level of difficulty. For those wishing to top-rope we introduce you to top-rope anchor systems and V-thread anchors. Your guide will critique your organization of gear and ice tools and will assist you in becoming more efficient and safe in how your systems work. Ideal for those climbers who wish to seek out longer, harder, and steeper routes. Location varies from season to season. Ratio is never more than three clients to one guide and is frequently less.
PRICE: $250 1:1, $350 2:1, $500 3:1

Hot Ice is for intermediate and advanced skill climbers who are ready to progress to vertical or overhanging ice, for those who are ready to lead on ice and for anyone who is interested in refining their skills and pushing through their present ability level. For experienced climbers seeking longer, harder, steeper and who want to go faster. At this level we seek out climbs whose challenge is mainly in varying shapes, conditions, steepness and length. We'll stress leashless climbing techniques and provide examples of both climbing with and without a leash, pros and cons of each. We'll show you how to safely and quickly protect your lead and how to deal with the mental stress that goes along with the vertical terrain. Location varies from year to year depending on seasonal conditions. Ratio is never more than three clients to one guide and is frequently less.
PRICE: $275 1:1, $400 2:1, $550 3:1

All-Mixed-Up is for those climbers who are ready to step off the ice and onto the rock, with their crampons on. We utilize the latest techniques and tools for mixed climbing and learn to apply them to not only modern single pitch mixed routes but also to longer, more demanding alpine climbs. Tool-camming, Stein-pulling, and many other techniques will be familiar to you by the end of this one-day clinic. We also discuss how to safely and quickly protect mixed routes and just what an appropriate rack might consist of. Location varies from year to year depending on seasonal conditions. Ratio is never more than three clients to one guide and is frequently less.
PRICE: $300 1:1, $550 2:1, $650 3:1
